The Marysville School District and the Marysville Education Association are currently in contract negotiations. The district wants a balanced budget and the teachers want to be able to do their job in an environment where they are valued, respected and are given the tools necessary to meet the state standards.
I recently received in the mail both at my home and office “A Report to the Community” from the Marysville School District. My first reaction was, “and how much money did this cost?” After reading numerous articles about “budget problems” within the district getting this brochure was like a slap in the face. The information could have been presented in a less expensive manner and the difference in cost could have been used in the classrooms. I’m sure the majority of these reports ended up in recycle bins throughout Marysville without being read.
I pay taxes to support the schools and I vote yes for the maintenance and operations levies, but I am not happy with how the district is using the money. Before we take away from the teachers of our district, the administration must show more fiscal responsibility and view its expenses from the taxpayer’s point of view.
