I have been a long-time member of the Marysville/Smokey Point community and when I found out NASCAR/ISC was looking into the possibility of building a race track in our area, I was very excited. I would like to show support for this project and encourage the local government agencies to pursue it with vigor. It is a well known fact that our state’s economy is faltering, jobs are being lost on a daily basis and businesses are closing at an alarming rate. The positive economic benefit this would have to our community far outweighs the negative criticisms that some may have.
A track this size would bring added revenue to shops, restaurants, gas stations and hotels in Marysville, Smokey Point, Arlington and surrounding Snohomish County. Not to mention provide entertainment to many families in the state of Washington. NASCAR/ISC has a strong fan base and the West Coast fans are growing in large numbers every year. I understand a possible recreation facility would be included; if this were a golf course or other recreational facility, it too would generate jobs and revenue for the city and county.
My family is an avid fan of racing and my 8-year-old son races quad, so I know we will want to attend the NASCAR races if they come into our community. I, too, get concerned about the environment and the added traffic a racetrack this size might bring to my community but feel NASCAR/ISC will address these issues in a positive way that will be acceptable to all parties. I’ve grown up in the Marysville/Smokey Point area and have seen a lot of growth but I have always supported the new businesses. It has brought a lot of jobs to our community. This appears to be a win-win project and I strongly urge you to consider their proposal and do everything in your power to make it a reality.
