Presidential election
Don’t understand Trump’s support
It’s imperative Donald Trump never sits at the White House’s Resolute Desk again. Most of us know this and are shocked anyone can even be on the fence, let alone certain Trump is The Chosen One. How can this be? For anyone who happens to have seen “Sasquatch Sunset,” let me say I’m feeling just about as stumped by the world as the Bigfeet were.
Given the candidates, this election should not even be close. Harris is a very fine nominee, whereas Trump should have been disqualified long ago. America has few qualifications for office [e.g., minimum age] but, apparently, no standards. Besides his flaming narcissism and atrocious behavior, Trump is probably the best example around of someone who over-estimates his abilities.
MAGA folks should (but likely won’t) read Sid Schwab’s excellent piece, “A tale of two national conventions” in the Aug. 30 Herald. Also maybe check out L.Z. Granderson’s and Charles Blow’s latest articles (Seattle Times, Aug. 29, 30 respectively) and others. Not that they will.
I believe religion is a huge factor in many MAGA members’ choice to be (and remain) poorly informed. Though I am secular, I do think it would be helpful if all the Christian nationalists out there would take another look at Luke 6:46 RSV: “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I tell you?” Good question.
