Mark Roe couldn’t have said it better, the group you never want to join for the fee is way too high. How sad I think it is the people that use this valuable service are the very ones that must support and staff Families and Friends.
I applaud those like Jenny Wieland, Bill Buckheimer and the countless others who have channeled their grief into a positive and productive outlet by taking what they learned from Families and giving back to those who so desperately need it.
The lack of adequate funding by both the public as well as the Legislature is just a shining example of “It doesn’t affect me.” For those who have never needed a service such as Families and Friends, You should count your blessings, write a check and hope you never need the service this organization provides.
My hat is off to The Herald, Sheriff Rick Bart, and Mark Roe for being champions for this wonderful organization. I will do my small part by sending a check to Families and will also send letters to my representatives in Olympia asking that they include Families and Friends to the list of advocacy and support services that receive funding from the state. I fear the day when the phone goes unanswered and a poor grief riddled soul is left to deal with their pain alone.
