As you are reading this newspaper today, you can know that because of this generous, big-hearted, giving community, every struggling family in Monroe will be able to prepare the same Thanksgiving dinner you are planning!
Concerned, yet full of faith in this community, I have watched the number of people in need of food grow drastically and rapidly due to the deteriorating economy. This is exhausting work for the 70 of us who volunteer at the Sky Valley Food Bank. We work six days a week to fulfill our mission to provide nutritious food to needy Monroe citizens. We see (and feel) heart-breaking stories, real people whose lives are deeply affected by high unemployment, low pay, low hours or fixed low income.
As sad as it is to see our friends and neighbors go without so many daily necessities, the reward comes from seeing you, our donors, give so generously and with such compassion. Your kindness touches and changes the lives of so many. You bring hope and relief when you help us in our fight against hunger. I know many of you make your own sacrifice for the benefit of others more in need, and to you, I give you my utmost gratitude and admiration.
Because of you, our donors and volunteers, we’re estimating this Thanksgiving that we will help at least 1,800 individuals. We are so very thankful for all of you who are responding to our plea for help on behalf of those in need through the holiday season – it will help us get through the upcoming difficult winter months ahead. Thank you again for making such a difference! May your Thanksgiving be full of warmth, joy and plentiful food, just as you have provided for your neighbors in need!
