Regarding the proposed budget cuts in Edmonds: Budget time should not mean cutting back on the two most necessary departments. We are fortunate to have a police department that over time has come to be one of the finest. The various programs built such as DARE, crime prevention and youth services are extremely important and must not be canceled.
These services are needed more now than ever before. And who would even give it a thought to cut back on our fire department? Every one of our firefighters is extremely important – they are expected to look after our Edmond’s citizens.
Thinking back, I recall how foolishly money was spent to hire expensive consultants. That is just one of many examples where changes are needed.
Let me suggest that the mayor, department heads and members of the city council give up their pay increases and maintain our police and fire departments without cuts.
