Perhaps you’ve heard of the King County Regional Homeless Authority, perhaps not, but you should know about it in case a similar effort is launched in Snohomish County.
As an effort to deal with homelessness in Seattle and King County, it was formed in 2019 and has been a major league boondoggle ever since. It has gone through one leader after another, but it has served as a great job producer. It is overseen by a 13-member board of unelected homelessness experts who are apparently overseen by a 12-member governing committee. The budget started at a paltry $167 million in 2019 which has grown to $250 million in 2024. It has had a revolving door of CEOs.
Seattle and King County officials have decided that it is time for somebody to oversee what appears to be a futile effort to solve a huge problem. Ya think?
