Regarding the Sunday letter, “Some elderly just can’t empathize”:
The seniors of America do not get “free” health care. They pay a monthly premium, usually taken out of their Social Security. When they pay for part D for drug insurance, there is a donut hole when they not only have to pay full price for their prescriptions, but they still have to pay for their part D drug coverage.
They have also paid into Social Security, either through employment taxes or as independent businesses.
As a senior, I support having a public insurance option, and am very angry about our Congress giving in to the insurance industry and the rabid voices of those who are only interested in seeing President Obama fail, not in what is best for the people in our country.
