I am writing in regard to the Wednesday article, “Tourism tax use questioned.”
I am a very well adjusted gay person who has learned to rise above such people as John Koster and his narrow view on what constitutes right from wrong. Just because a certain group (in this case Seattle Men’s Chorus) presents itself as the largest gay men’s chorus in the world, indicates a positive sense of pride and self assurance to come out and present itself (honestly) as it is. Music is what they really are about and sharing that particular love to a community they wish to embrace should not diminish the message – music. (Music should be a universal voice.)
For Mr. Koster’s information, the Seattle (Gay) Men’s Chorus is loved all around the world. It is recognized not only for its joyous uplifting musical ability to express in song, but also to express community love. Since the chorus is all gay they take communal pride in stating and being themselves.
Gay men and women are everywhere and will never go away. The fact that a group of like minded or orientated people are “Out and proud to become known to the whole world,” displays a huge leap of faith and love for themselves and their fellow human beings.
John Koster needs to learn to live and let live. His opinion is very prejudicial and hurtful to the whole human race. If he has such strong concerns about any person/group he should not be in office.
