Thank you for the article by Steve Silton in the Sunday Herald giving tips about hiking with dogs. I often see people out jogging and bicycling with their dogs and all of these options are good exercise for both humans and canines. May I offer one piece of advice? If your dog is lagging behind you, he is most likely getting tired and needs (deserves) a break. Remember, they can’t speak up and ask to stop, so you need to keep your eyes on them. Most dogs like to be out ahead, or keep in “heel” position, so if they are behind you, it’s time to stop. And please don’t expect them to run long distances on hot concrete/asphalt. Keep them on dirt or grass when at all possible. And be sure to bring water for them on these journeys. Thank you and happy exercising with your dogs!
