A recent letter writer is in denial that cell phones in cars are a serious problem and wants government to quit making laws “for our own good” (“Just ban everything in cars to protect us,” April 15).
The letter writer is not alone. Many others are in denial, too. They don’t get it when someone passes them with steam coming out of their ears, staring at them in anger. “Oh hold on, Harry, someone’s giving me the finger. What’s that guy’s problem? Yak…yak…yak.”
Ever pass someone you think is drunk but you find out a bit later they’re just on a cell phone? I would like to write more on this subject, but I’m waiting for a call from State Farm. One of their clients was on his cell phone and smashed into me on an I-5 overpass in Marysville. I literally watched him smash into me from my rear-view mirror as he was talking on the phone. Once we pulled over and met, the first words out of his mouth were, “Wow, my brakes must have went out.” Funny thing about those people in denial.
