The road to the Everett Animal Shelter has been closed. Because, 36th Street east of Smith Avenue has been closed indefinitely, people trying to get to the Everett Animal Shelter have to take a five-block detour route. The Herald printed a March 27 article and map on the change.
To reiterate: The shelter can be reached using the new 41st Street SE extension east of I-5. When the 41st Street bridge closes due to I-5 construction, drivers will have to use the 41st Street extension via S. Third Street.
I work as a volunteer for a couple of hours at the shelter each week. Because 36th street is closed, fewer people are coming to the Everett Animal Shelter. When fewer people come, more dogs and cats get put to sleep. Sometimes we see a dog that is just the perfect dog that would make someone the perfect pet. There are lots of perfect dogs at the shelter. If people don’t stop at the shelter because it is harder to find, then more dogs will get put to sleep. Sometimes it just breaks my heart to see really special dogs not find a home. I have one dog at home that I love very much. I wish I could bring home about five more dogs.
So this is just a reminder about the closed street and detour to the Everett Animal Shelter. If you have been thinking about getting a pet, this would be the perfect time to come in and look at the dogs and cats. I just don’t want to see more pets put to sleep than necessary. Please think about stopping in to look for a dog or a cat.
