The Jan. 9 front page of The Herald proclaimed “Legislature can expect rocky start. Rancor over election could spill into legislative session.” And why not? I’m old enough that I remember the shenanigans that went on in the Chicago elections in the late 1930s. And those same things happened in Washington. The dead voted, and their votes were counted! Convicted felons voted, some from inside prison walls, and their votes were counted. The number of votes exceeded the number of registered voters, but their votes were counted, anyway.
Also, absentee ballots from our troops in combat arrived with no postmark (Armed Forces Post Offices don’t do postmarks, ever) but were not counted. Such shenanigans shouldn’t happen, shouldn’t be condoned, and the perpetrators should be arrested and tried for election fraud.
Rancor? You bet!
