To the Monday letter writer from Camano Island who questions President Obama’s Christianity (“He has fostered the confusion”), I have to ask: Why does it matter? Last I heard there is no law that states a president, a representative or a senator has to be a Christian to run for public office.
In fact, there are plenty of Jews, at least one Muslim, and even a few atheists inhabiting the political arenas of our country. What is it about Muslims that get so many people worked up? I believe that we would do well to learn to embrace and live with our differences — our neighbors — as this is what makes this country exceptional. To do otherwise would make all of us into a bunch of “Glenn Becks,” afraid at every turn. That would be sad.
