Adults argue. Children sometimes take the brunt.
I honestly don’t understand if those who are upset over the CRC are actually opposed to the upcoming school bond election or have simply commingled the issues. They seem to care about educating our youth; I have to think they understand how not preparing for the 30,000-plus new residents over the next 20 years will affect the quality of education. But for whatever reason, they are unwilling to acknowledge the 25 years of planning that preceded replacement of two outdated, high maintenance relics using funds dedicated for that purpose. Regardless, their anger is blinding them to whatever support they might otherwise profess for our kids.
The case for approval laid out in the April 6 Viewpoints guest commentary is compelling. (“A vote in favor of school bond is critical for Everett students.”) It was authored by no fewer than 14 former school board members whose service dates from the 1960s. These individuals are respected leaders, elected by we citizens. They all served us well and they are unanimous in their belief that bond approval is both good and necessary for our youth. I believe them.
I urge my fellow citizens to support continued funding of our greatest assets — our children and our schools.
