A recent car accident involving an older couple has resulted in Olympia lawmakers submitting legislation to restrict seniors’ driving. Consider this:
Statistics show that oldsters are the safest drivers on the road. They do not tailgate, they do not speed, and they do not change lanes rapidly. Please consider what the results of the legislation would be.
First, by restricting their driving, new taxes would be required to support increased “dial-a-ride” to take seniors to their doctors and the grocery store.
Second, new taxes will be required to pay for testing senior drivers.
Third, new taxes will be required for senior health care due to problems with senior’s mental health because of their confinement to their home – which is not their jail.
Fourth, children must provide some transportation for their parents. Listen up – one day you will be old and someone will take away your license and many of your pleasures so your last days will be more difficult.
Please, leave us alone.
