I was born and raised here in Washington. In the 1980s I took a two-year job in Arizona, where I ended up spending 24 years. I returned home in 2008, but I visit Arizona frequently to visit friends and to prevent the web from growing between my toes.
I have been speaking to many of my Arizona friends regarding the much- discussed Arizona Senate Bill 1070. They, like me, are confused about the negative reactions to this immigration bill.
I have been trying to wrap my head around all of this and then I opened up the Friday Herald and read the right-on letter to the editor, “Long past time for national ID.” The writer gets it: “If you cannot prove who you are, you need to be detained.” It’s that simple. Thank you, sir, for pointing out how uncomplicated this issue really is.
Gotta go, I’m off to Arizona!
