I’m writing in response to the recent Everett City Council decision regarding the sale of alcohol on two public golf courses. I am personally against alcohol being sold by vendors on a golf course. When people want to drink, that is their business. Most people in our society drink responsibly. However, when the people who do not drink responsibly are allowed to drink as much as they want to on a golf course and then drive on our roads while under the influence, this is a recipe for disaster.
When I play golf, I wish to enjoy the game, the nature surrounding me, and the peace I get from being outdoors. If a group of golfers drinks too much and becomes boisterous and obnoxious, this spoils the serenity and the reason golfers play the game.
Do you see any professionals or amateurs who are competing in tournaments drinking on a golf course?
Once again, if someone wants to drink, they are entitled to, but not in a public park or golf course. There are more people who do not drink than people who do. I am not against drinking, but am against the drinkers who spoil the serenity with their obnoxious actions.
