I have always been thankful that Community Transit has a very diverse workforce with all the richness of different cultures blending together. I am also proud that we are a service organization and, as such, care about the impact we have on the communities we serve. We are here to provide convenient, safe, reliable service to our riders. I think we do our job well.
Our country is going through a very challenging time and we will all be tested. Our basic values and strong beliefs will see us through this tragedy. This country was built upon freedom of religion. Let’s not forget this fundamental belief. We are a nation built by immigrants and we need always to be accepting of different religions and cultures.
In the past few days, I have been dismayed that some of our coach operators are being harassed and are very fearful. These coach operators are responsible residents who also care about this country. It is undoubtedly very hurtful to them to be targets of this hate and discrimination. I plead with all citizens of Snohomish County to treat each other with the respect due human beings. As Executive Director of Community Transit, I especially ask that you treat our employees with respect. They are well-trained and responsible individuals who only want to do their jobs and safely transport you, their customers.
Let’s not forget the basic principles that make America a great nation. We are an accepting society and our country is built upon that strong foundation. Thank you.
