Drivers need to look out for riders

I read the Tuesday article about more motorcycles and more fatalities. Yes, there are more riders out there, and yes, there are stupid riders out there going way too fast and doing wheelies, making the rest of us look bad. It’s a shame you didn’t take the article further. All drivers need to be reminded that motorcycles are out there too and drivers need to look for motorcycles.

My husband and I ride motorcycles and take our daughters along often. Many riders like us have taken the MSF class and have endorsements. Quite a few of them that I know have been in crashes caused by drivers not paying attention. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month. I can’t tell you how many times I have had other vehicles pull out in front of me while I am on my bike, turn left in front of me, cut me off or follow too close. Many times we have been almost taken out getting on the freeway from drivers illegally crossing the solid white line just because they are in a hurry and don’t want to get into the correct lane in the back of the line.

It doesn’t always happen just because I am on my bike, it happens a lot while I am in my car, too.

We used to have a huge truck and many drivers didn’t pay attention and would cut in front of us, turn left in front us and follow too close. Drivers are not paying attention. Drivers need to pay more attention, watch for motorcycles and actually look for motorcycles. Look twice and it could save a life. Motorcycles have the same rights to the road as other vehicles do.

Please keep a look out for the motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians.
