If our new president is serious about significant changes, here’s one he should consider: He (and his supporters, critics and the media) should drop the adjective “African” when referring to people of African-American heritage. Are these citizens African-American or American? Is the continuing use of the former term intended to isolate or enhance their heritage? It would seem that people of Asian or European ancestry find it unneccesary to qualify their status as Americans.
