At the recent district legislators debate, I would like to point out that Rep. Hans Dunshee did not ask Mr. Mike Hope if he opposed abortion for rape victims. He asked if Mr. Hope opposed emergency contraception (Plan B) for rape victims.
Women are raped in this country every day and too often have to deal with doctors and pharmacists who oppose Plan B under any situation in which a woman may find herself.
I certainly respect the personal beliefs of others. However, Plan B is a contraceptive, despite the outcries from anti-choice advocates. Hans Dunshee has continued to protect a woman’s right to privacy and that includes the most effective way to reduce abortion – education and prevention.
