Chris Olds needs to read some of that history it was suggested we read (Letters, July 31 “Iraq: Children are dying due to sanctions”). Human Antics 101 clearly shows that despotic types, if left unchecked, always turn regional problems into world problems – always. It should also be pointed out that we are the only nation observing sanctions against Iraq. That leaves a hundred some-odd other nations to take up the slack, and many of them are doing just that in order to get that oil, thank you very much. If kids are dying in Iraq, it’s Saddam Husein’s fault – no one else’s.
I do have to wonder about the writer’s information regarding our bombing of water pipelines, though. CNN, always hell-bent to undo this administration’s efforts even to the point of making things up, hasn’t said anything about such actions that I’m aware of, and I’m certain they wouldn’t let that dog sleep. Normally, military operations are kept hush-hush anyway, so that makes it even more surprising that this water pipeline atrocity would pop to the surface in, of all places, Arlington. I wonder what the writer’s source is – the always unimpeachable Saddam, perhaps?
