Snohomish County voters will elect a new county executive on Tuesday. This position is probably the most important of all elected positions in the county because of the many important decisions he must make. The executive administers to more than 2,700 county employees and has a budget in excess of $800 million.
The two candidates’ work background as well as policy differences are great. Dave Earling, currently a long-term elected Edmonds City Councilman, had jobs as a college instructor at Shoreline Community College for 10 years followed by more than 20 years in real estate sales and brokerage. Currently, he has lead in transportation problem solutions as the appointed representative from the City of Edmonds.
Aaron Reardon has been a youthful 38th District representative and senator for the past five years. His private-sector work experiences were part-time assignments for several public agencies, most recently the City of Everett. He doesn’t have experience in administering a large budget or staff.
At a time when there is a great need for experienced leadership in Snohomish County to solve our transportation, public safety, economic development, and increasing job opportunities, we need to pick the candidate who has a record of leadership in these areas.
Dave Earling has the support of business and government leaders of both political parties as well as the endorsement of our two major daily newspapers, The Herald and the Seattle Times. Aaron Reardon’s primary support comes from the Snohomish County Labor Council leaders and several public employee labor union leaders.
As a long-time observer of county elections, I believe the voters have a clear choice and I would strongly support Dave Earling and urge your vote for him on Tuesday.
