Congratulations on your July 23 gravel editorial (“Gravel needs must be met in our backyards”). It was pleasant to see something realistic, factual, honest and unprejudiced.
Why are so many of the periodic spates of comments (both in letters and at public meetings) of those opposed to any realistic use of our valuable aggregate resources disproportionately unrealistic, nonfactual, and often incoherent?
It seems that many people who move to a rural environment are opposed shortly afterwards to others having the same option. Did they also forget that their houses and roads used a considerable amount of aggregate?
I wonder if these homeowners appreciate the fine, exhaustive work of the Mineral Lands Committee in trying to minimize the effects of future construction expansion.
