I wish to express my feelings about the thoughtless manner in which Ron Sim’s King County Council conducted their Dec. 10 meeting.
This meeting was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. to hear testimony regarding the final two “Brightwater” sewage plant sites.
The room was standing room only. Starting late at 1:45 p.m. accolades for the three retiring council members, the Bellevue High School girls swim team and boys football team took another 45 minutes. Sixty minutes of council business time was lost for the Edmonds representatives and for the VFW veterans, who had come to protest the proposed Sister County in Cuba and were never heard. The accolades could have easily been rescheduled.
The agenda was prepared to purposely limit the testimony. The resultant council ruling, keeping Edmonds Unocal and Highway 9 as the final sites, was “a done deal.” The manner in which this meeting was handled will only strengthen the resolve of the citizens of Edmonds to fight to the bitter end.
To Ron Sims, the King County Council and Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel, have an unhappy New Year. (This does not apply to Maggi Fimia who recommended expanding the existing Renton sewage plant to save $500 million.)
