I am writing as a parent volunteer for the Monroe School District for the past eight years. I believe that most parents volunteer because they believe that the education of our children is the responsibility of all citizens. The school district, like any organization, is only as strong as the individual members who contribute to it.
As voters we have increasingly demanded more from our schools and our children. It seems hypocritical and shortsighted to then pull the funding necessary to maintain these high standards.
I am lucky, my children are both very bright and have only experienced success academically. It is the children who need additional help and support who will be hurt the worst if the levy does not pass and academic services are cut.
I believe that education is one of the largest contributing factors to a child’s success as a future citizen and member of society. That brings us full circle doesn’t it? It’s in the best interest of members of our community to provide a quality education for all students, who will grow up to be future neighbors, voters and hopefully take their turn as contributing members of the community.
