The Nigerian hostage crisis continues, with the girls still missing and the government saying there will be no prisoner swap with the terrorists. It tears at the heart to think of these girls’ predicament and their families’ sorrow. But we are not powerless. In a democracy we can take action by calling the president (202-456-1111) and asking him to support what the terrorists fear most: education.
The multinationally supported Global Partnership for Education has already helped developing countries create sustainable education plans that resulted in 22 million more children in school. With a $250 million pledge from America added to other donors, the resulting $3.5 billion will help to give 29 million more children a chance for an education. This will terrify the terrorists, since they rely on the lack of education to recruit their followers. So take a moment make a call to insure future smiles for the children and frowns for the terrorists.
