I recently read an article about the future of the aerospace industry, and I was a bit shocked to learn that over half of Boeing’s workforce will retire in the next decade. I think that students should be more encouraged in math and science. The aerospace industry needs a highly skilled and trained workforce, and Washington needs an aerospace industry.
The aerospace industry is a big piece of the economy in Washington, and about 73,000 people in Washington are employed by Boeing every year. If those numbers fell by half, Washington and Boeing would have serious problems. But, action can be taken by improving education, and by providing mentoring opportunities to students throughout the state.
But, without help from voters and legislators, improved education isn’t going to come to a school near you very soon. That’s why we all should make the educational system a better place for students. Like Scott Carson (president of Boeing Commerical Airplanes) said, “We have some heavy lifting to do.”
