Regarding the “Click it or ticket” campaign (“State patrol keeps its eyes peeled for seat belt scofflaws,” news story, May 7): Nice poetic phrase but I think I would prefer “Smoke-out or shell-out.” Do our legislators really care about my well being or is it just another revenue increase? If they really cared, there would be absolutely no smoking in public places.
With what is known today about the inhaling of econd-hand smoke, I find it hard to accept that our revenue-chasing legislators can’t find it in their power to pass some legislation to really protect the masses. “Smoke-out or shell-out” should be our new phrase if we truly want to protect us against ourselves. That’s my opinion and I hope that of others.
