I’ve been away on vacation and just now catching up on news of the past few weeks and saw The Herald’s endorsement for Mary Margaret Haugen in the 10th District. I certainly agree that she should be returned to Olympia, but I disagree with the comments regarding the race track.
I think it’s fine that an elected official can see the “big picture” – that’s the kind of person we should have running the affairs of our state. Perhaps her current opposition to the race track comes from experiences with similar situations in the past.
We’ve seen good examples of businesses milking our government “cash cow” recently enough that it’s reasonable to me that we should all be wary of the kind of deal being presented by NASCAR.
We should be looking for other good uses for that land and more controlled growth, rather than jumping at the first interesting crumb that’s thrown in our direction. Our children and grandchildren will be living with our decisions.
