“We the People …”; what a concept. Sadly, today we live in a world that is more “in spite of the people.” What happened to “public servants” who served with sacrifice? Supposedly, we elect individuals to represent our needs and interests. Instead once elected, more often than not, they serve themselves and the special interests that funded their election. They pass laws for us to live by, exempting themselves.
They pass laws to improve their income and benefits (can you say insider trading) while ignoring our needs. Their health care is unlimited while many of these same politicians deny the same for the people they represent. Rather, they say “we don’t want it or need it” … can you say hypocrite? Their benefits are unbelievable. College tuition for their “family,” travel, housing, apparel, meals and a pension plan that is beyond generous.
The “system” is so ingrained it is impossible to believe our representatives would vote to reign in their own excesses. The very people who can change this system of entitlement are the most steadfastly protecting it. Apparently the view changes once you are at the trough. Once our elected representatives “get theirs,” there is little left for the rest of us. Is it any wonder that millions are spent to obtain jobs that pay thousands?
