Regarding the editorial on the Electoral College (“Electoral College interferes in votes of Americans,” The Herald, Nov. 8). I believe it is doing exactly what is was supposed to do and that is to maintain a divided government so the no one party or group of states or any other coalition can gain permanent control of the country and its institutions.
It could be 50 to 70 years or more before enough states’ demographics change enough to cause the Electoral College rules to change. The reason is that you have to determine how people identify themselves by race and political affiliation, and who knows what that will look like by that time. By that time we could have red, blue, white and say green, all differently aligned than now.
