Elias, district provide us with quality service

I would like to see the commissioners bring back Paul Elias as general manager of Snohomish County PUD. He has worked hard, along with the many good people of the PUD, to make this organization one of the best run utilities in our state. As a customer of the PUD, my power rarely goes out even in the worst storms. If it does, the outage is never very long. This is far more than many of the other utilities in our state can claim and it is due to the many dedicated people out there working hard. I believe that an organization directly reflects the vision of the leaders who run it, and I believe that Mr. Elias is an integral part of that vision. To remove him now would do harm, not good, to the organization.

In a follow-up story, The Herald highlighted areas where the audits recommended the PUD make some changes to their policies and procedures, but it should be noted that these recommendations were not radical and only served to highlight the idea that the PUD really is doing a very good job overall. Anyone who has worked for any business of substantial size like the PUD, or even The Herald itself, could list many situations where policies could be tightened up. I am convinced the Mr. Elias and the PUD has always been, and will continue to be, conscious of where and how money is spent to bring power to us in the most efficient and inexpensive ways possible.

If I had a vote, and in a way I do, I would vote to keep Mr. Elias on board and let him continue to steer the ship through these rocky and lean times. I hope the commissioners will feel the same.
