Regarding Julie Muhlstein’s column on the Red Hat Society, I wonder how many letters she has received from Red Hatters.
I think Muhlstein and Diane Schultz (who wrote a letter supporting her views) could lighten up a bit. Life is serious enough and we Red Hatters have spent, and are still spending, much of our lives being serious.
I question whether “this age of trying to stay youthful” is wise. Why not embrace our age, whatever it is? I don’t mind being my age (I’m almost 66). I don’t consider myself elderly and I’m certainly not too old to have fun.
Also, you can’t have too many friends. I’ve lost way too many of my old friends; I’m grateful for this easy and fun way to make some new ones.
When we go out as a group in our regalia, we get a lot of smiles. Whether people are laughing with us or at us doesn’t matter – they’re still laughing.
But to each her own. I just hope that however you choose to do it, you make time for fun and silliness in your lives.
