Coming to a theater near you: Google is asking the Unicode Consortium, which controls specifications for emojis, to approve a set of emojis that show the diversity of professional roles in which women serve.

Sure, but back that up a bit. The Unicode Consortium? Isn’t that the name of the latest Dan Brown conspiracy novel to be turned into a Tom Hanks thriller.

A division of the Trilateral Commission: Defense Secretary Ashton Carter plans to overhaul the Pentagon’s Silicon Valley office, the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental, or DIUx, responsible for overseeing tech companies that work on military applications.

As part of Carter’s management changes, the DIUx will report directly to the Unicode Consortium.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1918 the first U.S. airmail stamp, featuring an image of a biplane, was issued. On a few stamps, the biplane was upside-down, making it a collector’s item.

Some say the misprint was inadvertent, but that’s just what the Unicode Consortium wants you to believe.
