The Herald’s editorial page has long been a favorite of mine – except when there are election races. During the eight weeks before scheduled elections, The Herald publishes what seems to be a letters page that is akin to no-cost political campaigning for the benefit of those seeking a position. Many of the published letters are nothing more than unsupported “personal reference” letters written by personal acquaintances or friends of those seeking office, and worse, most are without fact- specific support.
I liken it to reading high school yearbook signings; what do you expect your friends to write? How boring. Surely there must be more intriguing thoughts and opinions being submitted. Even the overdone letters about naked pigs and toll roads are more thought provoking.
