It looks like bin Laden won. His stated goal of 9/11 was to bring down the U.S. economy. After 9/11 the U.S. emptied its treasury and borrowed heavily to wage wars in pursuit of al-Qaida. Ditto for NATO. Now many of the NATO countries, and the USA in particular, are broke, jobless, dislodged from pre-eminence and indebted to unfriendly nations.
It might not have turned out like he planned or anyone foresaw, but he achieved his goal.
