Here we sit on Sunday, trapped in our homes from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Why is this, you ask? We live southeast of Lake Stevens, outside the city, and it’s Ironman weekend.
For weeks we have put up with bicycles clogging OK Mill Road on weekends. They don’t have a clue to ride single file on this windy road. No, see how much traffic you can block going double or triple wide. If you are driving and hold up more than five vehicles, you are required to pull over and let them pass. What about the bike riders?
Last week we were notified by signs to be prepared for delays on Sunday. My husband went down to pick up our granddaughter — they live on 145th Avenue SE, just off OK Mill Road. When he got to 145th, it was blocked off. There are 9 or 10 homes on this road; how would emergency vehicles get in? One house was trying to have a garage sale. Sorry.
If Lake Stevens wants this type of competition, keep it in your neighborhoods. We live in the country for a reason, and it is not for your convenience.
