I heard that the Federal Communications Commission has passed a new ruling that prohibits certain phrases and terms on the radio. With that, some radio shows have had to be completely reformatted to conform to this new ruling, and that has taken a lot of the personality and humor out of the shows.
As far as I know, on every radio each person on the FCC has, off to the left there is a button called “off.” They can always do what most people do and push that button!
I am not a supporter of Howard Stern, but rather than call the FCC and complain about him, I used that little button on my radio and choose not to listen to him. Although I choose not to listen to him, he did have a large fan base, and the FCC shouldn’t have yanked him off the air leaving his fans wondering what happened!
I think as a society, we are informed enough and intelligent enough to make our own decisions as to what we enjoy and what we don’t. I would never impose my beliefs on everyone, and I think it is unfair that the FCC is imposing their beliefs on us, rather than giving us the choice, (and legal right) to make our own decisions.
If we don’t like what we see or hear we should always be given the choice to turn it off, and do so.
