There has been quite a lot of conversations around Everett. and Snohomish County for that matter, about inclusion, equity and diversity, etc. And as our city grows, we will become more and more diverse in our makeup. While many seek to find solutions to “fix” disparities, others encourage the inclusion of more diverse voices in our choices. As the city that leads the county, I believe Everett must be a thoughtful solution finder in those difficult yet necessary conversations. Ensuring that all our citizens feel safe, productive, welcome and included is a necessary part of the growth management of our city.
It was unfortunate that when Herald reporter John Cornfield (The Sunday Herald, Oct. 15) had a chance to ask Everett’s mayoral candidates Cassie Franklin and Judy Tuohy about issues faced by communities of color what their plans are regarding those conversations and communities, he didn’t. Instead, choosing to ask about the NFL players kneeling in protest.
