About 20 years ago Everett voters decided not to be part of the transit system that is now serviced by Community Transit. Everett has its own bus system. Effective Jan. 1 Snohomish County voters increased their sales tax rate by .3 percent to improve and restore service eliminated when Initiative 695 was passed. The tax increase does not include Everett.
Community Transit does however service Everett. A Community Transit spokesperson stated that they have to as some of their customers reside in Everett. The bottom line is that Everett is receiving service without paying for it.
Everett’s citizens must assume responsibility to ensure their transit system meets up with Community Transit. Community Transit should not role one wheel within the city limits of Everett.
Since Everett opted out so many years ago, I don’t think the general population is aware of this inequity. Please investigate this situation and let the rest of the voters know that we, once again, were not told the whole story.
