I have never written a newspaper before, but I am now compelled to. I am a 51-year-old respected adult.
When I was 16, my friends and I eagerly looked forward to “running the gut” on the weekend. A section of Colby Avenue was the “gut,” our cruising strip. Hot Rod magazine even gave the gut honorable mention.
Rather than passing a law to make it a crime if a kid happens to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time, maybe ruining their future, why not give the kids an area to cruise? The police could patrol the area. The kids would be able to show off the cars they are proud of, meet new friends and socialize. Everybody wins.
Kids don’t change, 99 percent of them don’t race or raise hell. We didn’t, we only wanted to show off our rides and meet chicks. Now kids get a ticket for doing what we ourselves did when their age.
Have all the Everett town dads forgotten what it’s like to be a teen-ager? Would you rather have them doing dope? I, for one, say, give the kids a break.
