A recent decision was made to cut the percussion section of Everett High School. In 2022, many donated totaling $19,000 to add a drum corps and it has been in implementation for less than a year. Now they are going to cut it. If this decision comes to fruition, it will be the last levy I will ever vote for and I will share the story to any ear that will listen.
The trend has been to take away from the arts to trim the budget. Not every child is an athlete and their niche is music. Many of these kids are of lesser means with little support at home and the love of music is what keeps them in school. Schools with healthy music programs have a higher graduation percentage. Why is the first cut always to the kids?
I believe they should clean house from the top down instead of the bottom up. I’m fired up about this and so should you be. Write letters and make phone calls.
There is power in numbers and there is power in unity.
