Te Dec. 11 letter to the editor (“Everett Events Center: city’s good judgment is missing the boat”) stated that Everett, with a population of 100,000, would have to have 1 out of every 10 people attending events in order to fill the proposed arena and events center. I say that if we waited for that to happen, it in all probability never would.
But the arena and events center is meant to attract people from throughout Snohomish County, with a population of 618,600, for a ratio of 1 out of every 60 plus residents. That doesn’t even include those who might come from outside of the county, just as we go to Seattle for a Mariners or Huskies game. For Everett to become the natural activities and cultural center it should be, it certainly must continue to upgrade and improve its core area.
We have supported the wonderful Performing Arts Center on Wetmore from its conception. We are season ticket holders for Village Theater, ($345), Pied Piper Presents, ($318) and for 13 or more events, for which we used to go to Issaquah. We make it a truly special night out for ourselves and our four granddaughters by going to dinner at one of Everett’s better restaurants. The great thing about this is my family and I now do not have to go to Seattle or elsewhere to see a high-quality performing arts event.
The same would be true with ice hockey, of which we are also fans, and know of others who are too. Just as we see others from the Monroe area at Everett’s restaurants, stores, the theater, the mall, the waterfront and so on.
Everett is and should be the natural center of activity in Snohomish County and the arena and events center will be a wonderful addition for people of all ages. I am sure it will be supported by the people from throughout Snohomish County, such as ourselves, and be a great boost to the economy of Everett.
