The Seattle monorail authority has $6 million in its budget for planning on extensions to and from the Seattle monorail. If Everett were to make plans and or start a line south, I bet that the first choice to extend the Seattle monorail would be north.
You can sit and wait for Link light rail, which doesn’t seem to be able to leave Seattle, never mind get past the Montlake Cut and get to Northgate. Or you can take your future into your own hands. Put together a plan and put it to your voters.
Capacity decisions are being made now for the Seattle part. Make sure that capacity for the riders going to Everett and beyond is included in the Seattle design. Even if all you do is send down the county transportation planners to the Seattle planning meetings it will make a difference.
Don’t wait for people in Olympia to solve your traffic problems. Think what you want your city and the region to look like in 10 years and work toward that goal. We just said we don’t want more freeways (R-51 fails), let’s tell those politicans what we do want. Fast quiet, rapid transit that is head-and-shoulders above all the rest. Oh, and did I mention that it’s the least expensive fixed system?
