I had the pleasure of attending the June 20 Everett City Council meeting. There was a long and in-depth conversation on districting in the city of Everett. It was clear that the City Council was looking to move forward with a districting plan that would change the current seven at-large City Council positions to a more representative and democratic system.
This letter is in strong support of the Everett Districts Now’s five districts and two at-large model. This model was developed after a great deal of research and involvement of many Everett citizens. It has the support of the Snohomish County NAACP, League of Women Voters and many community leaders. The result of a recent survey developed by the city of Everett, showed responders gave this model the highest percentage of support.
As a nine-year resident of the the city of Everett, I urge the city to work closely with Everett Districts Now to develop the 5-2 model that acknowledges the hard work and support from Everett residents.
