Was anyone else as frustrated as I was with the teacher’s “walkout” in the Everett School District? The lack of consideration on their part was unbelievable! Not only did they break their contract and very likely impact family vacation schedules by extending the school year one day, but they took all the parking spaces, plus curb parking in the Safeway strip-mall parking lot at Murphy’s Corner so that employers, employees and customers were unable to access the many businesses. After driving around for 30 minutes, I was told by a business owner to park in a 20-minute spot, even though I would be there longer and a Safeway manager told me to park in a handicap spot which I refused to do! Businesses most certainly lost money due to the thoughtless actions of these “educators,” because customers could not park.
Our teachers make good money for the days they work, with great benefits. When you hear the teachers say, ”smaller class size” and “more money for education,” these are buzzwords for “How can we make more money for the unions and teachers?” Think about it! If we have smaller class sizes, we need to hire more teachers and staff, which equates to more money for the unions in dues. We’ll also have to build more schools and yet the kids still won’t have a better education.
I want to thank the good teachers who were also appalled by this walkout, who honored their contract and who did not just “go along to get along.”
