I’m going to take the middle road here, since recent letters have all taken sides. On the con side, I agree that fluoridating drinking water is silly. It’s equivalent to taking a muscle relaxant, which affects all muscles, when it’s one specific area you want to target. Why not target the area desired by using a fluoride toothpaste or rinse, not drinking water.
On the pro side, for all those folks who do not know what a toothbrush is for, or find it useful only on weekends, (and have the mouth to prove it), it could help by offering them fluoridated water.
Yet, there could be worse things in your drinking water, depending on where you live. According to UNICEF/WHO, 783 million people in the world do not have access to safe water. This is roughly 11 percent of the world’s population.
