In Saturday’s Herald, the article, “Man who raped and killed boy arrested for child porn,” stated that Andrew Nicholas Evich was convicted in Whatcom County in 1974 of the sexual assault and murder of a six-year-old boy. The next sentence tells us this man was sent back to prison in 1985 after being convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for sexual contact with a 15-year-old.
Then in 1998 again convicted for receiving child pornography and sentenced to five years in federal prison. Now here we are in 2015 and Mr. Evich has again been arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography, specifically images of a child rape. In less than 11 years this individual who raped and murdered a 6-year-old boy is released into society! How does one who commits such a monstrous crime get out of prison in less than 11 years? I for one am not a supporter of the death penalty. Rather, life in prison with no chance of parole fits that crime for sure, in my mind. There was no justice for that poor little boy or his family. I am told there was a time when this man’s fellow prisoners would have administered justice and he would never have appeared before a parole board.
